Thomas J. Lantz, Sr. graduated from the University of Maryland in 1967 with a BS in Accounting. He received his CPA license in 1968 while employed at Ernst & Young. He later became the Financial Vice President of Moses-Ecco Co., Inc. a large construction firm. In 1974, he founded Lantz & Associates, P.A. which in 2001 was merged with Heim & Associates, P.A. to form HeimLantz, P.C.

Tom holds CPA licenses in both the State of Maryland and the State of Virginia. He is currently a member of the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA) and the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA). In 1995, he obtained his Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) designation from the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA)and in 2007 obtained his “Accredited in Business Valuation” (ABV) designation from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). In 2008 he became Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), a specialty designation of the AICPA. Tom is a Past-President of the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA), a past member of Council of the (AICPA), and a Past-President of the Southern Maryland Chapter of CPAs. He served for 3 years on the Professional Ethics Executive Committee of the AICPA and has authored several courses on Professional Ethics which he currently teaches for the Maryland Association of CPAs. He has also taught ethics courses for the AICPA and the Virginia Society of CPAs. He is currently a member of the Quality Control Task Force of the Auditing Standards Board of the AICPA. In 2004 he was awarded the Public Service Award by MACPA and was recognized by the AICPA for his public service. He is a member of the NACVA, the Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA), a member and past-president of the Estate Planning Council of Suburban Maryland, a member of the Board of Trade of Prince George’s County, MD, the Chamber of Commerce of Alexandria, VA and the Rotary Club of Alexandria, VA.

Tom specializes in business valuation and succession planning for closely held businesses. He has “walked the walk” with many closely held businesses over his 40 years of professional experience, assisting his clients with critical “buy/sell” decisions, as well as how to pass on their business to future generations with minimal tax exposure. He brings to the table the technical and theoretical aspects of valuing businesses, impressive professional credentials, as well as a practical and common sense approach to business. He also offers an in-depth knowledge of estate and gift taxes, which is so critical in performing succession engagements.

Tom also serves as an expert witness for the legal profession in matters of business valuations, business and domestic disputes, and estate and gift tax matters. In addition, he has deep knowledge and experience in performing and overseeing audit and attest engagements.
