Mr. Russell joined HeimLantz in 2013 and currently serves as a senior accountant. He specializes in preparing business valuation and financial forensic reports to assist businesses and their owners with strategic planning, litigation, family law, and other scenarios involving business valuation or financial forensic expertise. In addition to preparing expert reports, Mr. Russell has experience providing depositions and expert witness testimony in court. He also assists business clients with financial statement attest engagements, tax returns, strategic consulting, month and year end closing procedures, budgeting, and other accounting and advisory services. Outside of his client responsibilities, Mr. Russell is a member of the firm’s litigation support and valuation services, accounting and advisory services, and audit and attest groups.

Prior to joining HeimLantz, Mr. Russell worked as a senior accountant and HR manager for a direct mail consulting firm in Riva, MD. He currently serves as an adjunct professor of accounting at Anne Arundel Community College and the University of Baltimore. Mr. Russell was inspired to become an accountant out of a desire to help business owners navigate the complex world of finance and accounting, and his goal is to provide clients with security, confidence, and peace of mind.

Mr. Russell received his Master of Science degree in Accounting and Business Advisory Services from the University of Baltimore. He graduated from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the History of Philosophy and the History of Mathematics. Mr. Russell is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA), the National Association of Certified Value Analysts (NACVA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

Mr. Russell was born in Washington, DC, and has spent most of his life in Annapolis, MD, where he now lives with his family. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah, and three children, Tyler, Sada and Tobias. Mr. Russell can also be found watching and playing sports, weight lifting, running, and golfing. He comes from a family of musicians and plays the drums whenever he can. Mr. Russell’s favorite book is Catcher in the Rye, because it reminds him that all people are truly young at heart, and we are all searching to find our way home.
