Renee Speer
Renee Speer
Staff Accountant

Renee is passionate about accounting. She enjoys taking complex and chaotic tax circumstances and simplifying them for clients. She likes being able to save clients’ money and time.

Accounting is not Renee’s first profession—prior to joining HeimLantz she spent 19 years working in information technology for Verizon. As a Process Engineer employing Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, she discovered that certain processes had built-in inefficiencies; however, when she made efforts to streamline the processes from an efficiency perspective, she ran into “roadblocks” from the accounting department. The time that she spent grappling with these issues exposed her to the perspective of an accountant and, after some reflection, she decided to make a career change. Renee returned to school in 2014 in order to complete the education requirements necessary to allow her to sit for the CPA exam. By November of 2016 she had passed all four exams and in the course of her search for new job opportunities, she discovered HeimLantz! Her responsibilities include tax preparation work for both individuals and companies, as well as basic audit testing.

Renee is a CPA Candidate, having passed all four exams, and is currently in the process of completing the designation’s experience requirement.

Renee grew up on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, in Salisbury. She currently resides in Crofton, Maryland with her husband, Dave. She enjoys Crofton for its walkability and community. In her free time, Renee likes to bike, hike, ski, and scuba dive—and she is also learning how to play golf!
