Federal Tax Return Filing Deadline Moved to July 15

On Friday, March 20, 2020, Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin released a statement that the federal tax filing deadline has moved in response to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The new deadline of July 15, 2020, corresponds with the tax payment deadline previously delayed earlier in the week. However, there are some details that are not known at this point and we will hopefully receive more guidance from IRS soon.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
In accordance with the CDC recommendations, earlier this week we asked nearly all our team members to begin working from home in order to reduce the risk of infection to our team members, their families and our clients and to control the spread of the Coronavirus.

Thankfully our team enthusiastically embraced this change. We believe it’s important for all organizations and teams to keep teams engaged and maintain the culture and friendships, particularly during these challenging times. We are also very proud of our clients and community who are following the CDC’s recommendations to control the progress of this pandemic.

We are revising our processes to assist our clients and team members in practicing safe habits by utilizing the myriad of tools that we have in place to meet, to share information and documents, and to inform.

Currently we are maintaining a very small team in each of our offices ready to help clients with any face to face needs (on a very limited basis); however, we acknowledge that the time before a “shelter in place” order is proclaimed is limited, in which case we will no longer be able to offer in-office services. Given all that is occurring we strongly encourage our clients to use the following resources to help keep everyone safe:

  • Meetings
    • Teleconferences
    • Video Conferencing using Microsoft Teams, Join.me, Zoom, or Skype
  • Submission of documents
    • Client Portal
    • Secure upload links through email (by request)
  • Delivery of tax returns or other completed work
    • SafeSend- A secure way to review your tax returns and sign them from anywhere
    • Client Portal
    • Secure encrypted email
  • Payments – can be made via credit card on our website

Although we continue to receive and send items through the US Postal Service and other shipping services such as FEDEX the above digital methods are secure, fast and can be managed by our remote team from anywhere.

We remain committed to our clients, our team, and our community and will continue to provide updates as we navigate these rapidly changing events.
